A Message from our Past Chair
Rev. Takouhi Demirdjian-Petro
The Four Rivers Presbytery is the youngest presbytery of our Conference and I am humbled to be the fourth Chair since our formation on January 1, 2013. I have to say that Four Rivers Presbytery has definitely been one of the awesome presbyteries that I have ever been involved with – maybe because it is so small or maybe because we all work together diligently, respectfully and lovingly – None of us is in competition. Our twenty-one small, rural pastoral charges are not faint at heart, we have BIG hearts and lots of love to share. We became an Affirming presbytery in 2015 and that underscores the inclusivity of this group.
Our denomination, the United Church of Canada, is only ninety-one years young compared to other churches throughout history and that makes me think that we are still taking baby steps – we still have a lot to learn.
This year, as your Chair, my focus is: “Be Life”. Taking the word Belief, rearranging one letter and putting space after the first two letters, “Belief” becomes “BE LIFE”. Over the years we have been holding on to our buildings strongly, and allowed ourselves to be imprisoned by them. What if our Belief is Simply calling us to live our faith. We have seen through the centuries that material love, fear and other greedy priorities have hurt the church and the Body of Christ; and people are longing for a life of love, acceptance and respect.
The deep human longing has always been and will always be – to belong, to love and be loved. There is no higher desire than to accomplish this.
Friends, welcome to this website – may you browse around and find more than just a website where events and minutes are recorded. May you find Love, Life, Laughter and the encouragement that you need to BE LIFE to ALL who come your way.
There are many changes taking place, not just in the church but in the world… But we need NOT be afraid of these changes, but embrace them as we are embraced by God no matter who and where we are.
Remember to move around that little letter “e” in the word Belief and put a space after the “B” and “E” and “BE LIFE”.
Be Life with Love… BE LIFE with JOY, Be Life with Care…
This year, as your presbytery chair, I promise to journey with you, to the best of my ability and I urge you to journey with each other with Love, Respect and Grace.
“13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.” (I Corinthians 13:13) Amen.
